Fishing
Hunter Valley Station offers access to both Lake Hawea shoreline and the renowned Hunter River, which boasts Rainbow and Brown Trout, as well as Quinnet Salmon.
Boundary Hut Accommodation and our backcountry huts (Scrubby, Leap, Rabbiters) gives the opportunity for that early morning, first light fishing. Options to stay in other back country huts are also available and great for fishing access.
High clearance off road 4-wheel drive vehicle is necessary to travel to the Hunter River. We charge a small admin fee per vehicle.

Biking
During your stay, Mountain Bike from the Station Accommodation to travel up the western side of the lake at your leisure . The back country track can be great fun for all levels of riding, with mountain streams to cross and spectacular views .
We charge a small admin fee per mountain bike. The track provides a start for an hour adventure, or bike longer options to stay in the back country huts for a few days. Day Walks/Day biking trips
Magnificent scenic day walks are an easy stride from all of our accommodation, or more physical hikes walking further up into the main valley.
Boat access to the Hunter River
The closest boat ramp is at the Neck, on Meads Rd which is accessed from SH6. Jet boats can only access the Hunter River during two “uplift periods” which run for three weeks from November 1- December 12, and again from March 19 – April 30 (as quoted by Fish and Game NZ).
